The following is a guide to installing NewsSeeker for Windows. This how to is produced using screenshots on Windows Vista, however the same basic principles apply to Windows XP.
Stage 1 - Pre-requisites
If you have never run NewsSeeker before, are not running Windows 2003 or Windows Vista and never installed the free Microsoft .NET framework (What is Microsoft .NET framework?) you will need it to run NewsSeeker. However the NewsSeeker will detect this and try to install it for you.
You can also do this via Windows update or otherwise visit Microsoft 'How to Get the .NET Framework 2.0'.
Stage 2 - Installing NewsSeeker
1) Download NewsSeeker from this website to your computer and run the installer called 'newsseeker.exe'
2) NewsSeeker checks to see if you have the required prerequisites installed such as the required .NET framework. If these are not installed the setup process will connect to Microsoft's website and download/install them for you first.

3) The installer will start, press 'Next >'

4) Read and agree to the license agreement before continuing. If you agree with the terms in the license, select 'I Accept' and click on 'Next >'

5) You will now be asked which shortcuts to NewsSeeker you wish to have. By default NewsSeeker will add itself to the Start Menu programs folder, however you can optionally check the 'Desktop' box to place a shortcut on your computer's desktop.

6) Select the type of setup you wish to perform. Typical or Complete will install NewsSeeker to your computer, however Custom will let you remove some of the additional utilities that come with NewsSeeker such as the Import and Export tools. If you wish to install NewsSeeker to a directory other than the default ([Program Files]\Dominion Web\NewsSeeker) then select 'Custom'

7) The setup has finished gathering the information it needs to install and will begin installing after pressing 'Next >'

8) If you are using Windows Vista then User Account Control (UAC) will ask for your administrative permission to continue
9) NewsSeeker has successfully installed. If you would like to run NewsSeeker immediately then simply click on 'Finish', otherwise untick the 'Launch NewsSeeker' box and then click on 'Finish'.

10) To run NewsSeeker click on the Start Menu and either in the Windows Vista search box type in 'NewsSeeker' or select 'All Programs'.

11) Browse to find the 'NewsSeeker' folder and click on the 'NewsSeeker' shortcut to run the application.

12) The first time you run NewsSeeker (and everytime until a license key is entered) the Install License dialog will appear. This shows you how many days are left on your trial and allows you to either Purchase a license, continue your 30 day evaluation or register a license key. If you do have a license key enter it in the license key text field (or copy it to the notepad and click on the paste button) and click Register.
